Liam O’Connell
Liam O’Connell is a Bristol-based composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist
whose work draws together contemporary classical composition with the rhythmic intensity and raw energy of his background in experimental rock. He previously fronted the trio My Octopus Mind, releasing three studio albums and touring extensively across Europe, before turning his focus increasingly towards orchestral and chamber composition.
A recent distinction graduate of the MA in Composing Music for Film and TV at the University of Bristol, O’Connell’s concert music has been performed by Bristol Classical Players, Avon Concordia, Troyka Mala and his own Leeem Quartet. He was awarded the JH Britton Prize for Composition in 2024, and Bristol24/7 described his music as “evoking the spirit of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, rendered not through cliché but through a sophisticated musical language.”
His work also spans film and theatre, with screen credits including Knot (Disney+) and Surviving Earth (Amazon Prime and BFI Player). He is currently scoring for a theatre production of Dracula and his latest orchestral work was commissioned by Bristol Metropolitan Orchestra.
Works performed: November 21st 2026
