A Fundraising Concert for Bristol’s St Peter’s Hospice  Bristol Metropolitan Orchestra, together with the City of Bristol Choir, Bristol Schools Chamber Choirs, Bristol Grammar School Choir and Westbury-on-Trym Choir perform  Carl Orff’s stunning Carmina Burana. With lyrics from the Middle Ages full of passion and excitement, Carmina is music of a primeval nature. Many will instantly recognise the opening and closing O Fortuna section from television’s The X Factor or Only Fools and Horses. The brass fanfare of Shostakovich's Festive Overture provides a lively opener, and Dvorak’s ever-popular symphony From the New World completes a thoroughly entertaining concert.   The concert also includes a short piece specially composed and performed by the St Peter’s Hospice Choir, led by their music therapist, Jane Lings. Jane not only provides emotional and psychological care to patients, she is also a long-standing member of Bristol Metropolitan Orchestra’s wind section where she plays flute. The Choir started in February 2013 and is open to anyone with any connection to the Hospice. Members include people whose loved ones have been cared for by the Hospice, staff and volunteers.  Bristol-based Ovation Finance Ltd, the Orchestra's sponsor in 2014, is sponsoring this concert.  They are donating an Ovation guitar as a raffle prize and will be in the foyer on the concert evening.  All proceeds from the raffle will go to St Peter’s Hospice.
